KSCOPE TO RE-RELEASE 2 DISC (CD/DVD) OF ANATHEMA'S ACCLAIMED 2014 ALBUM 'DISTANTSATELLITES' AT MID-PRICE. Anathema have spent the vast majority of their career making music that defies description. Formed in the mid 90s, they have risen to become one of the UK's most cherished and critically acclaimed rock bands. With their star rising ever higher, Anathema returned in 2014 with a new studio album - 'Distant Satellites', the highly anticipated follow up to ANATHEMA's critically acclaimed 2012's 'Weather Systems' and 2013's stunning concert film 'Universal' directed by Lasse Hoile. 'Distant Satellites' was recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo with favoured producer Christer-André Cederberg. Alongside additional mixing by Grammy Nominated Steven Wilson, ANATHEMA also brought in the legendary services of Dave Stewart (Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson) to create the new album's extraordinary orchestral arrangements. Instantly recognisable to ANATHEMA's global army of ardent disciples as another chapter in this band's remarkable story. With a few strides into uncharted territory, not least the electronica-driven surge of the album's stunning title track, 'Distant Satellites' will surely be recognised as not only their finest album to date but was one of the most celebrated and lauded albums of 2014, reaching 32 in the UK charts with the likes of The Guardian (UK), Metal Hammer (UK /DE),Kerrang (UK), Classic Rock (UK/DE), Prog Magazine (UK),Aardschok (NL), Rock Hard (DE), Rolling Stone (Aus)heaping praise on the album. 'Distant Satellites' showcased another imperious forward step into the realm of miraculous songwriting and is a gleaming anthology of beautifully crafted songs, performed with vitality, verve and utmost passion, once again demonstrating the sublime, instinctive song writing talents of the Cavanagh brothers and drummer John Douglas.

Following up “Weather Systems,” which was a huge success for Anathema would seem quite a daunting task, but, thankfully, with “Distant Satellites” the band were able to explore a different musical avenue while still retaining the emotional drive of “Weather Systems.” Where this album differs is this time around there elements of electronica interjected into the music and this is most noticeable on the title track, which, for me, remains one of their most powerful and best pieces they ever wrote. The strong rhythmic drive is still here, but it seems that “Distant Satellites” is the darker, more introspective sibling to “Weather Systems,” which I view as an emotionally and musically brighter album. To spin this another way, “Distant Satellites” is the yin to “Weather Systems” yang. An absolutely brilliant, and haunting, album that I’ve returned to quite a bit over the past few months. If you’re already a fan of Anathema, then you already own this album, but, if you’re new to the band, then this might not be the place to start, which, if this was the case, I would recommend “Weather Systems” or “We’re Here Because We’re Here” first. Highly recommended!Anathema are:Vincent Cavanagh – lead vocals, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, programming, backing vocalsJohn Douglas – e-drums, percussion, keyboards, programmingDaniel Cavanagh – co-lead vocals, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, pianoLee Douglas – lead vocals, co-lead vocals, backing vocalsJamie Cavanagh – bass guitarDaniel Cardoso – drums
